Brazilian Technical Association of Automated Glass Industries (ABIVIDRO)

The Brazilian Technical Association of Automatic Glass Industries (Associação Técnica Brasileira das Indústrias Automáticas de Vidro – ABIVIDRO) brings together the fifteen companies operating in the country, working with the markets of construction, household appliances, packaging and automotive, furniture, glass and special technicians. Founded on April 11, 1962, the institution aims to promote and enhance the use of glass, systematize the flow of information from all sectors of the supply chain, encourage continuous improvement of the production, and represent sectors common interests. In order to support glass sector's competitivenes and to respond to societal demands, the organization has been actively encouraging increased recycling. Today, the sector presents recycling rate of 47% (2008 data). ABIVIDRO started the first recycling program in Brazil in 1986, developing projects in partnership with municipalities and trade associations from 25 cities. ABIVIDRO develops educational and environmental projects, and currently has over 1000 registered suppliers of cullet in 800 cities in several states.
