Optimizing Batch Wetting

Around 2 – 4%water by weight may be added to the batch in order to reduce batch segregation during transport, to ensure homogeneity and to reduce dust, which increases furnace and regenerator life. However, the added water needs to be evaporated in the melting tank, thereby increasing energy consumption. Hence, wetting should be minimized to reduce energy consumption.
