Variable Frequency Drive for Clinker Cooler Fans

In most plants, the amount of cooling air provided needs to be adjusted depending on the demand. Use of dampers is a common way of controlling air flow from the fan to the cooler. Although dampers may offer advantages in certain circumstances, generally they offer an inefficient flow control approach as the fan continues to operate at full load. Adjusting the fan speed using variable speed drives offers a more efficient alternative and can save considerable amounts of energy.
